Mercury Drowning
The story of Mercury Drowning is twofold.
On a surface level, it’s intended to be the story of how Nya, while merged with the ocean, recovers her memories and returns to her human form.
Sinking deeper, it’s about her relationship with the “Self”. How she struggles to connect with a sense of “self” when so much of who she is has been shaped by the desires of others and the traumatic experiences she feels she can never quite explain.
How do you begin to remember who you are, when your identity has always been shaped by forces far greater than yourself?
How do you pull yourself to shore, when you were born buried deep in murky waters?
